Hannah Payton again proved she is the best not only on a single day but as a continuous performer by taking the National Series crown for the ladies competition. Tom also gained a creditable 3rd place overall.
Cyclo-Cross National Champions
A great start to 2011 saw Hannah Payton take her first national title as Junior girl cyclo-cross champion after a storming ride in Derby. She finished 4th overall behind the three top women riders who regularly compete and live in Belgium. Isla Rowntree also claimed the vets national jersey for the second year in succession, beating Claire Smith from Swindon RC.

He also managed 4th places in 3 other events: 5Km scratch, 200m time trial and the sprint. All in the over 75's category which was Wally's own brainchild.

This was timed to coincide with the first Go-Ride session and it is hoped that participants past and present of the Go-Ride scheme can attend. There will be a buffet, non-alcoholic drinks and a unsupported roller riding display.

Norma Fardon holds Wags Kup for an act of crass stupidity: in her desire to clean up the local towpaths, leaned too far into the canal to retrieve a discarded bottle and joined it!
Club Mark Accreditation
In January we gained Club Mark accreditation. Clubmark is the only national cross sports quality accreditation scheme for clubs with junior sections. It is built around a set of core criteria which ensure that accredited clubs operate to a set of consistent, accepted and adopted minimum operating standards.
Sport England recognises and values the commitment made by sports clubs to develop high quality, welcoming environments for young participants. The development of clubs that encourage young people to take-up sport, improve their talents and give them the option to initiate and maintain life-long participation in sport is an essential part of our work to support the sporting infrastructure in England.
This will now enable us to further develop cycling in the Stourbridge and Dudley area to the benefit of local school children and adults. We can now expect support from and work with the national cycling body, British Cycling, local authorities and government, as we support our own partners.
National cyclo-cross Championships, Sutton Park
Hannah Payton gained a silver medal in the U16 category which should prepare her well for next years jump to junior. Isla Rowntree also took a medal, this time gold as the winner of the vets race, her first attempt at this category.
Cyclo-cross league finishing positions
Hannah Payton won the overall title in the West Midlands Cyclo-cross league (youth girls) after consistently performing well in every event she rode. George Appleby who rode in the U16 category gained a creditable 8th position.
Tom Payton also had a good season and would have almost certainly won the league had he ridden enough qualifying events, however, illness and National series duties prevented this. Tom won the National series competition for the U23's
Onto the vets and Kevin Payton finished 6th overall and Roger Allen 9th.
With many SCC riders competing this season, we consider this a resounding success, with other riders making their debut, notably Anthony Neave in the U14s, Adam Moore and Bryan Hedges joining the vets races.
