16th JANUARY 2007.
Sweet Success for
Rowntree
Following her Bronze
Medal in the National Cyclo Cross event at Southampton
the previous week. Isla
Rowntree scored her first victory of the season
in the 4th round of the
National series at Derby.
She beat the Championship Silver medallist
Gabby Day of Global Road
Team into 2nd place. It was a good indication of what she could have
achieved with a full season behind her.
Tom Payton also achieved his best
placing in a National event in finishing 8th in the U16 junior race.
Father Kevin riding the Vets race was pleased with his placing of 23rd.
With all the major events now completed
in this country. A contingent of Stourbridge C C riders are travelling to Belgium at the
end of the month to view the World Championships. Held in the Cyclo-Cross heart
of racing they will be amongst the anticipated 50,000 spectators who will attend the two
days of racing, whatever the weather.
At the Hawbush
clubroom on 8th January, members enjoyed a slide show and talk by
Roger Iddles on his double World Championship victories at St Johann in Austria. On
display were his medals, trophies and UCI jerseys awarded to the winners. The
talk was followed by a question and answer session.
