The club represented by the Payton family  successfully completed the 16 weeks of the Cyclo  Cross season at Aldersley Stadium Wolverhampton.

 

First year Junior Tom Payton took the honours in his category also taking 7th place overall against the Senior riders. The event was won by former National Champion Steve Knight M I Racing.

 

Diminutive Hannah Payton riding in the Youth race  finished 2nd girl and 9th overall to round off an excellent debut season in Cyclo Cross.

 

Kevin Payton left his best performance of the season until the last event in finishing 11th in the seniors/vets event. His 8th place in the vets  was commendable in this the most competitive of all the categories.

Tim Edwards rode his debut cross event last week for Stourbridge at Alders;ey and finished in 30th place in the vets event.

The last race was held on 4th February at Curborough, Lichfield and Tom Payton finished 3rd overall in the vets/womens/youth event and 1st Junior. Kevin finished 17th overall and 12th vet. Tim Edwards also finished in 39th place.

 

The mild January weather has helped the training programmes of the road racing section for whom the season commences in March. In addition to solo rides during the week. Well attended training groups set out from Kingswinford each Saturday and Sunday on non stop 3 ˝  hour rides.

A group of riders led by World Vets champion Roger Iddles will spend the latter part of March in Majorca. This has long been the destination for “warm weather” training of many North European racing cyclists. It gives an early opportunity to build up fitness on the varied terrain which takes in the flatlands of the east and the mountainous west coast. Riders will anticipate riding up to 1000 miles during their stay.
