Chris
Jeavons organised an October cycling weekend
, continuing a tradition going back over 30 years to the founding of
the club. This year it was to Upton upon Severn with the 9 club riders staying at the Star Hotel.
After a familiar start through the lanes to Droitwich
we took lunch at the famous Bull's Head at Inkberrow.
After crossing the Avon by Fladbury Mill we passed
through the picturesque Worcestershire villages of Elmley Castle
and Eckington to complete the easy route to Upton.
The following morning,
despite a few sore heads, saw the group heading for the southern end of the
Malverns. By careful map reading to over Castlemorton and Bromesberrow Heath,
the hills were crossed with barely a gear change and swift bit of down hill
into the coffee stop in Ledbury. It is always a pleasure to visit the cafe
in the High St.
lane with the famous church framed by the narrow end of the lane. Barely using
any main roads we skirted the Malverns , travelling northwards to the carvery
lunch at Broadheath. In the afternoon it was back
to very familiar roads alongside the Severn
to arrive home by the late afternoon and never having seen a drop of rain.
