Star performer of the week end Cyclo Cross racing was 12 years old Hannah Payton. Racing in the West Midlands Cyclo-cross League event at Elmdon Park, Solihull. Hannah scored her first victory in the under 16 category when she beat rode away from a field containing girls up to three years her senior. Hannah’s ride so early in the season together with two 3rd placings from previous events has given her a solid base in the season long league competition.

Jamie Bytheway, Terry and Carol Rowntree also rode in the vets event adding to the strength of the Stourbridge contingent.

At the National Trophy Series event held at Ipswich on Sunday the other part of the Payton family racing squad, brother Tom and dad Kevin also kept the flag flying. Tom competing at National Junior level finished a creditable 11th against the country’s top riders.

Supporting his son, Kevin finished 28th in the Veterans category to complete a good day for family unaware that the youngest member had emulated them already.

In the Ladies National Trophy event Isla Rowntree winner of the series on five consecutive occasions consolidated her “comeback” with an excellent 3rd place .

The results this season indicate the growing interest in the club for off road riding. Stourbridge C.C. can reasonably expect to continue featuring at national level.
