11th September 2006
The Roger
Iddles winning sequence continued when he won his age
category of the British Time Trial Championship held in Hampshire on 3rd
September. Following his
success at the Worlds, Roger was unsure about his ability to
reproduce effort at this level. In spite of wet conditions to start he
overturned a 10 second deficit at half way to win by 40 seconds from former pro
rider Reg Smith, Team Chevin.
Continuing “against the clock” on
Saturday 9th September Roger competed in the Ratae
10 held on the Six Hills course outside Leicester.
His time of 21.11 was good enough to win the Standard award and finish 4th
on actual time to Matt Bottrill 20.09.
The following day Roger competed in the
LVRC Staffordshire Oatcakes Road
Race and renewed his season long battle with former Tour of Britain winner Les West. On this
occasion the Potteries star turned the tables
to win the event. The duo who had been part of a seven
man breakaway which developed halfway through the race, left their companions
with 11 miles to go. In a sprint finish West edged in front to win by half a
length. A notable victory over the World Champion.
In the race for the 40 to 50 aged category, Mick Donnelly continued his fine form in finishing
4th actual and 2nd in his age group. The event was full
of action from the start. Donnelly and former Pro Steve Jones worked hard to
bridge the gap to an early breakaway. They finally made it after a massive
effort only to lose out in the final dash for the line.
