I have always fancied doing one of these rides, but I'm not sure which one to go for. The official tour is 100 miles and takes place the first weekend in August. I think I might go for a long weekend taking Mrs Davy C and the kids. Any one else fancy it? If not can anyone lend me a bike rack to fit a Mondeo!
on saturday june 19th 2010 we will be holding the ardbeg committee10th anniversary gourmet ride and i thought you might just be partly interested.
we will start the day with breakfast at ardbeg distillery's old kiln cafe before heading out for up to 100km around the principality. there will be a couple of ardbeg related feedstops en route, including lunch at ballygrant prepared by the old kiln's chef, and a visit to debbie's cafe in bruichladdich for a snack and the opportunity to sample the finest coffee this side of easter island. return to the distillery in the afternoon at your own pace.
in the evening, we'll have a three course dinner again in the distillery's old kiln cafe, but the bonus, as it were, is in the company for the day. graeme obree will be our guest for the evening and also intends to join us for the day's ride. while i doubt mr obree needs any introduction to present company, for those unfamilar, he has held the hour record twice during an illustrious career in the 1990s as well as convincingly beating chris boardman for the 4,000m pursuit gold medal. his original bicycle, in part made from washingmachine parts (now you know) is in the scottish transport museum.
cost per entrant is £35 including breakfast, lunch, snack, three course meal, water bottle, cycling cap, ardbeg miniature and perhaps a dram or two. if you're interested in taking part, drop me an e-mail (brian@thewashingmachinepost.net) to advise. accommodation at this time of the year ought to be easier to come by than during the ride of the falling rain, but now would be a good time to book if you're thinking of attending. payment can be made at the start of the event. this is not a race, you can cycle as much or as little as you wish, and there is no specific finish time, though we'd like to think you'd be back in time for dinner.
please note that all riders participate at their own risk; ardbeg distillery and thewashingmachinepost accept no liability for injuries incurred during the ride.
